The school located at 219 Charles Street opened its doors as Henderson High School in 1936 and closed its doors 82 years later as Henderson Middle School. In 2018, when the county’s two middle schools consolidated unto one school campus, the building went unused for a short time. As more and more innovative programs and initiatives emerged throughout the school district, so did the need for a space large enough to house them. In 2021, the plan to repurpose the school building located at 219 Charles Street as the comprehensive shared space for the district’s innovative programs was officially implemented.
The Vance County Schools’ Center for Innovation is a robust shared campus that the school district uses to promote the education of innovation and future-readiness. The offerings at the Center for Innovation serve a broad audience of students, teachers, and the community through intentional collaborative programming and projects in the following areas:
Specialized Education
